Measurements and Metallurgical Analyses
Onsite Measurements
In addition to an extensive product range, HOESCH Metallurgie GmbH also offers the performance of a wide variety of measurement services regarding melt quality. No matter where you’re located. test Based on these results, our metallurgists can recommend possible process improvements and support you in the implementation. These include, for example, the creation of production-related scrap due to metallic and non-metallic impurities, an increase in productivity and/or an improvement in the overall quality of your products.
As part of our consulting services, we analyze your company holistically – for an outcome as sustainable as possible. In this process, all departments that support and influence your process are involved both theoretically and practically. With your consent, we consult our network of experts and research institutions as needed.
Please contact us for a more detailed description of each measurement method and/or to discuss your request with us.

Off-Site Prefill Analysis
The Off-line Prefil® method is a convenient and cost-effective alternative to on-site measurements. Liquid metal samples are taken from the process and shipped to our laboratory in the form of a solidified casting.
These samples are remelted under controlled conditions in a special furnace in the in-house HOESCH laboratory and technical center of HOESCH Metallurgical Service and then filtered and analyzed according to the Prefil®/PoDFA method. This procedure allows information about the specific inclusion type and inclusion number of your sample. This method can also be used to examine already solidified castings for their inclusion content
This process can be applied to pure aluminum and aluminum alloys, zinc and zinc alloys, as well as for pure magnesium and magnesium alloys. For the latter, HOESCH was able to develop a special method for melting and filtering in an inert gas atmosphere and to compile a comprehensive inclusion catalog. This offers our customers the unique opportunity to analyze magnesium in terms of chemical and metallurgical purity.
The process in brief:
Customer sampling
- Sending of samples to the HOESCH laboratory
- Remelting of the samples by means of an induction furnace under controlled conditions by a HOESCH engineer.
- Filtration with Prefil® (Prefil ® testing)
- Metallographic analysis of Prefil® samples according to the PoDFA method
Evaluation of the test results
You receive your analysis results in the form of a detailed report that can be customized to your needs.
